Betting words, translated

The glossary

Bookies have a dialect, and it's not an accident — confused punters make worse decisions. Here's every term translated into English, one page each, with an honest note on which offers suit which bet. No jargon survives contact with this page.

Acca (Accumulator)

One bet combining several selections — every leg must win, and the odds multiply.

Bet builder

Several outcomes from the same match combined into one bet — priced with fatter margins.

BTTS (Both Teams to Score)

A bet that each side scores at least once — result doesn't matter.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

A bet on total match goals: over wins with 3+, under wins with 2 or fewer.

Asian Handicap

Levels a mismatch by giving one team a goal head start (or deficit) — no draw outcome.

Cash Out

Settle a bet early at a bookmaker-set price — margin included.

Each-Way Bet

Two bets in one: half your stake on the win, half on the 'place'.

Qualifying bet

The first real-money bet that unlocks a welcome offer.

Acca insurance

The one-leg-down refund, usually paid as a free bet.

Betting odds

The price of a bet, in three dialects: fractional, decimal, American.
